Ethiopian opal is a type of precious opal primarily found in the Wollo and Shewa provinces of Ethiopia. Unlike Australian opals, which form in sedimentary rock, Ethiopian opals are volcanic in origin, created when silica-rich water seeped into cavities in igneous rock. This unique formation contributes to their stunning play-of-color, where the stone reflects a spectrum of colors, including reds, blues, greens, and purples, depending on the angle of light.
